High 5 Today Campaign – Make a Difference Monday

High 5 Today Campaign - Join this kindness campaign to encourage and empower rather than tear each other down. - www.MePlus3Today.com

For a while, I thought the “mommy wars” were imaginary. That they were actually self-inflicted because we were all being too hard on ourselves. We were comparing ourselves to some nonexistent ideal of the perfect mother. This thought came to me when I noticed that highly shared posts on social media are those about ending the “mommy wars.” Seriously, how many times did you see this Similac commercial in your newsfeed? I also often see posts about the struggles of motherhood and how we can all relate to each other. This led me to think that we really are all on the same team. We are all looking … Continue reading

Become a Bone Marrow Donor FB

Disclosure: For your convenience, this post may contain affiliate links. World Rare Disease Day was just over a week ago, on February 28th this year. I never would have known this except I saw a few of my Facebook friends change their profile pictures to something similar to the one below. That was a great way to raise awareness because it caused me to look it up and inspired me to write this post about how to become a bone marrow donor for those with rare diseases! The little girl in the picture happens to be my cousin’s daughter. She was … Continue reading

10 Simple Ways to Practice Compassion TODAY – Make a Difference Monday

10 Simple Ways to Practice Compassion Today - Love how quick it is to show a little compassion each day! I will definitely be doing this from now on! Make a Difference Monday - www.meplus3today.com #1000Speak

Last week was the #1000Speak movement where over 1000 bloggers and vloggers posted about compassion, kindness, caring, non-judgment, and self-compassion. I didn’t have a post ready in time, so I spent the day sharing as many posts from these wonderful people as I could via Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest. I had planned to focus my post on compassion based on how The Free Dictionary defines it: “deep awareness of the suffering of another accompanied by the wish to relieve it.” While working on another project, I stumbled upon these 10 reliable sites that allow you to do a very small part to relieve suffering somewhere in the world. And … Continue reading

All You Need is Love – Make a Difference Monday

All you need is love. ~The Beatles Quote - www.MePlus3Today.com - Make a difference Monday

With Valentine’s Day last week, the Make a Difference Monday Linkup was full of LOVE! So, I thought for this week, I’d share a few posts that I loved reading! Because like the Beatles say, “All you need is love.” My favorite post was Love is My Religion from Be a Warrior Queen. I love how she said that she can “practice love every second of every day.” Plus, I noticed she had a #1000Speak tag in her Twitter post, which I am also participating in! Stay tuned for this Friday, February 20, 2015 when bloggers flood the internet with posts … Continue reading

Somewhere Out There Project – Make a Difference Monday

Random Acts of Kindness Idea - Support the Somewhere Out There Project! I LOVE this idea! Such a neat concept and it wonderful to see someone willing to spread some kindness in the world!

Today kicks off International Random Acts of Kindness Week! This year, the goal is to flood social media with kindness and record 100,000 acts of kindness. As a RAKtivisit, I’m pretty pumped about this week and have a few things up my sleeve to do my part towards that number. One of my random acts of kindness is to share about a project started by fellow RAKtivist. It’s called the “Somewhere Out There Project.” The website says: “The goal of the Somewhere Out There Project is to create a tangible way to share smiles with the world. We create small wood burned … Continue reading

Valentine’s Day Gift Idea – Gifts for a Cause – Make a Difference Monday

Valentine's Day Gift Idea, a gift that Gives Back - I love the idea of giving a gift for a cause! - www.MePlus3Today.com

Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links, and I will make a small commission from purchases made via these links. Thanks! As I did my holiday shopping this year, I tried to make an effort to purchase from businesses that give back. I browsed through many gift guides that listed gifts for a cause, like this one from She Lives Free. She also created a round-up of several other gift guides with even more ideas for gifts that give back. Eventually I came across a company called That’s Caring. I ended up buying the muffins and coffee gift box for my mother-in-law from … Continue reading

“If Opportunity Doesn’t Knock…” – Make a Difference Monday

"If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door." Milton Berle quote - www.MePlus3Today.com

The past week has been ridiculously busy and full of a variety of emotions. Why? Well, I had my last day at my job as an engineer. I was there for nearly 8 years. But really, engineering feels like all I’ve ever known. I decided to be an engineer way back when I was a sophomore in HIGH SCHOOL in order to plan my class schedule to prepare me for college. During my junior year, I took 2 math classes at the same time so that I could take AP Calculus my senior year and head into college with as … Continue reading

1000 Voices Speak for Compassion – Make a Difference Mondays

1000 Voices Speak for Compassion

Within the past week, something incredibly awesome has happened. An amazing new initiative called 1000 Voices Speak for Compassion has begun! This movement began when Yvonne Spence, after reading about so much devastation around the world, put a call out to get 1000 bloggers together to write posts about compassion, kindness, support, caring, and similar topics on the same day. And the response was overwhelming. Within 48 hours of that question, the group was already halfway there! And it continues to grow! As I’m writing, there are now over 800 people taking part in #1000Speak movement. The date has been set for February 20, 2015. I don’t … Continue reading

5 Inspirational Quotes Worth Reading Right Now! – Make a Difference Mondays Link Up

I mentioned this in a previous post, but in the weeks after losing Chaz, I used to spend my evenings reading quotes on Pinterest about death and grief, while sobbing my eyes out the entire time. I don’t know if it was therapeutic for me or if it was just what I needed to do at that time. But either way, that’s what I did! When I told my therapist about it, she said that it was completely fine. There is no “right way” to grieve. And she told me that eventually the quotes I preferred to read would change… … Continue reading
